The HR 218 course is a course for retired law enforcement officers to learn how to carry a concealed firearm nationwide. The course covers topics such as weapon safety and the course of fire. Students receive all the required paperwork and qualification cards.
To enroll in the course, students must present their Retired LE Identification Card, Pistol Permit, and Driver’s License. Upon completion, students receive a Photo Identification Card.
The course costs $100 to qualify with one firearm, or $150 to qualify with two firearms. The HR 218 course is also known as the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA). The federal law allows qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States. However, individuals carrying under LEOSA/HR 218 must follow federal laws and federal agency policies. These laws restrict the carrying of concealed firearms in certain federal buildings and lands, and on airplanes.
